Australian Open 2017: Serena Williams beats Venus Williams to claim title and record 23rd grand slam – It was a great match between the two sisters which resulted to Serena Beating her sister Venus in straight sets to win her seventh Australian Open and an Open-era record 23rd Grand Slam singles title.

Serena re-Wrote the history of tennis when she dealt with her opponent who is also her sister, Meanwhile her fiance Alexis Ohanian came along to cheer her up, watching from the stands.

Serena, 35, won 6-4 6-4 to pass Steffi Graf in the all-time list of major winners since the Grand Slams accepted professional players in 1968.

Australia’s Margaret Court, with 24, is the only player still ahead of Serena in terms of Grand Slam singles titles.

“It’s never enough, 23, 24, 25,” Serena told the crowd after her win. “I felt like I really elevated my game this year.

she later told reporters that “It’s such a great feeling to have 23. I’ve been chasing it for a really long time”.

I knew I had an opportunity to get it here and I’m here.” she added.

Venus, who at 36 is the oldest Australian Open finalist in the Open era. She Congratulated her sister and told the crowd that ” Your win has always been my win” referring to Serena. “All the times I couldn’t be there, didn’t get there, you were there.”

Serena paid tribute to her sister, who was playing her first major final for eight years, saying: “There’s no way I would be at 23 without her. There’s no way I’d be at one without her. She’s my inspiration”.
