How To Calculate CGPA In Nigerian Universities – In Calculating GP, the first thin you have to know or have in mind is the your COURSE UNIT or CREDIT UNIT because the total of the course unit will be use in dividing the Grade, after that you also have to know the GRADE SCORE ; Like for example the level of performance Rating
CGPA Scale in Nigerian Universities (Level of Performance Rating)
A – 5 (70-100%)
B – 4 (60-69%)
C – 3 (50-59%)
D – 2 (45-49%)
E – 1 (40-44%)
F – 0 (0-39%)
How to Calculate Grade Point Average (GPA) In University
Remember that every Course/subject or module has a Credit Units (CU) fixed number. Quality points (QP) are derived from multiplying the Credit Units (CU) for the Grade Point (GP) earned by the student in that course.
â–º Grade Point Average (GPA): is derived when you divide the Total of the Quality point (TQP) for the semester by the Total Credit Unit (TCU) for that semester which you are calculating.
eg if the QP is = 88, and CU is = 2, that is the Total TQP = 88, TCU = 24
GPA = QP/CU = 88/24 = 3.66
CGPA = TQP/TCU = 88/24 = 3.66
â–º Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): is derived by adding the Total Quality Points (TQP) for all semesters to date and dividing by the Total Credit Units (TCU) for all semesters to date. or in other way Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is calculated as your first Semester Result i.e Grade Point Average (GPA) -.– multiply with Second Semester Result -.– divide by 2.
Below are the illustration table for both First (1st) and Second (2nd) Semester

So let begin with the calculation a ge. When calculating, remember that the total of Quality point (TQP) will be divided by the Total of Credit Unit (TCU)
TQP = 57, TCU = 19
GPA = TQP/TCU = 57/19 = 3.00
Grade Point Average (GPA) ; 1st semester result is 3.00

How To Calculate CGPA In Nigerian Universities
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is calculated with your 1st and 2nd Semester Result i.e Grade Point Average (GPA) 3.00 multiply with Second Semester Result 4.11 divide by 2. eg. 1st Semester Result = 3.00 multiply by 2nd Semester Result = 4.11 and divide by 2 = 3.55
1st 3.00 + 2nd 4.11 = 7.11
7.11/2 = 3.55
OR
TQP = 74 +57 =131Â TCU = 18 +19 = 37
CGPA = TQP/TCU = 131/37 = 3.54
